We are extremely fortunate to have been included in the second round of Culture Recovery Fund grant awards which were announced today. Despite having mulitple productions ready to entertain audiences from 12 April, the company remains on a knife edge after such a difficult year. We would like to express our sincere thanks to DCMS and Arts Council England for helping to ensure Birmingham Stage can continue to provide high quality theatre to children and their families.

We are delighted to announce that our production of BILLIONAIRE BOY is heading into the West End this summer. Four years ago our production of GANGSTA GRANNY enjoyed a sell-out season at the Garrick, so we are thrilled to be returning to there for this summer run of David Walliams' heart-warming story about a young boy looking for the one thing money can't buy!

We are thrilled that the Birmingham Stage Company has been supported with an award of £132,000 from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund. This vital grant will ensure our ability to stage new productions in the coming months and stabilise the company for the future to provide theatre for young people in every corner of the nation. It has come at a pivotal time for the company as we embark on an intensive period of work to ensure we are not only continuing to produce theatre but creating new and innovative platforms for our productions to reach new audiences and to stimulate their interest and enjoyment in theatre, history and the wider world.

The BSC is assembling in the rehearsal room today about to do a run of Tom Gates in front of the author Liz Pichon, her agent at David Higham, her publisher Scholastic, our publicists and the BSC office team. It’s the first time any of them will have seen what we’ve been doing for five weeks. There’s still a while to go before we open – two weeks today! Next week we move to the theatre in Horsham to start the technical and dress rehearsals before the world premiere performance on Valentine’s Day.

Hot on the heels of Gangsta Granny, we're delighted to announce we will be staging the world premiere of David Walliams' story, Awful Auntie.
