James and the Giant Peach has been wonderfully brought to life by Birmingham Stage Company. My son and I were enthralled by this David Wood adaptation which was beautifully stage with colourfuland imaginative sets, foot-tapping songs and fantastic choreography.

There were also some unexpected pyrotechnics that brought howls of delight from the children and parents - and a delightful interactive moment with the peach and the audience.

The cast were funny and engaging, showing off their acting, musical and dancing skills with aplomb, as well as some brilliantpuppeteering.

Special mention to James, alias Tom Gillies, who played our endearing hero to perfection, while the Centipede, aka ChrisLindon, and Iwan Tudor as the Grasshopper were excellent comic turns and obviously quality musicians too.

Yet the saxophone-playing Spider, aka Sioned Saunders, Ladybird, played by the instantly likeable Claire Greenway and Rhys Saunders as the dour Earthworm were also on top form in this five-star family production.

At the end of this near-two hour show the cast left the stage to long and loud applause and waves from cheering parents and children - the best review of all.

The Birmingham Stage Company show utter respect for story origin and only enhance the sense of fun with audience participation. No-one can fault their attention to detail - the costumes are as Quentin Blake drew and Dahl described.

Birmingham Stage have truly captured the magic, essence and nostalgia of Roald Dahl. A must see for people of all ages!

The Birmingham Stage Company has pulled off a beautiful version of this colourful Dahl classic. The seamless combination of strong actors, incredible musical talent and the original use of props, offers an impressive, uplifting, laugh-out-loud show.

Musical talent shines from every member of this cast and their appearance when playing and singing together while crammed into the giant stage peach - a feat of engineering in itself - is not unlike a joyful scene in a Dublin pub.

Genuinely Heart-warming stuff.
