Neal began a Drama degree at Warwick University but left after seven weeks and applied for The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. After graduation he did six months work in Oxford and Basingstoke and then established his own theatre company to stage THE SEAGULL with The Birmingham Rep.
In 1991 he began planning the foundation of The Birmingham Stage Company as the new resident company of The Old Rep Theatre, which had been professionally dark for over twenty years. He organised and hosted celebrity interviews to raise funds for the company and the BSC was duly launched in September 1992.
Neal has since appeared in many of the company's shows, including Dr Ratner in THE DICE HOUSE and the title role in SKELLIG. He is soon to appear in THE FIREWORK-MAKER'S DAUGHTER and HORRIBLE HISTORIES - BARMY BRITAIN.
Neal has been made a Fellow of The Birmingham Society for his outstanding contribution to the quality of life in the city of Birmingham and shortlisted for a Creative Britons Award for his contribution to the country's cultural and creative wealth.
